Polly Higgins: The Lazy Environmentalist  
Polly Higgins is a barrister, international lawyer and environmentalist.

Building on her recognition that existing laws do not provide adequate
protection for people and planet, Polly is at the forefront of advancing
international law to create a duty of care for the planet. Polly is an
advocate for earth jurisprudence to be incorporated at international law
level. In November 2008 Polly initiated the call to the United Nations
for a Universal Declaration of Planetary Rights. You can read more at

2009, Polly was voted by the Ecologist magazine as "One of the Top Ten
Visionaries to Save the Planet" for her work on Planetary Rights.

In April 2010 Polly presented a second proposal to the UN Law
Commission: the adoption of Ecocide as the 5th Crime Against Peace which
would provide the international legislative framework to prevent mass
ecological destruction and devastation and implement a globally binding
pre-emptive obligation on all business and governments to ensure such
